Puglia, Italy

I first visited Puglia, in southern Italy, in July 2018.

It was summertime. We spent the long summer days discovering different beaches and the evenings exploring different towns. It was glorious!

We went back in the summer of 2019 and 2022 - and we are already planning our trip for August 2023!

Since my first visit in 2018, tourist numbers have steadily increased in this southern region. As a result, cliff diving spots and grottos, once free-for-all, have become increasingly more regulated with paid parking and entry.

Despite this increase in popularity and regulations, we still adore this area. The beaches showcase a rugged beauty, whilst there is a slightly unpolished charm to many of the towns.

It is also a relatively affordable travel destination compared to other parts of Italy.

Getting to Puglia, Italy

From many airports within Italy, you can fly to either Bari or Brindisi. Alternatively, we have driven from Rome a couple of times. It may take between 6 - 8 hours, depending on which town you’re visiting first.

Getting around Puglia, Italy

I highly recommend hiring a car to make the most of your time in Puglia. There is so much to see - and the best places are not readily accessible by public transport. Unlike other areas of Italy, you will not need to drive on an autostrada. If staying in a town, look for accommodation that offers parking, as it can be tricky to find car parks.
